The music is pop rock nonsense with awful lyrics and all the characters are annoying, untalented and pretentious.

Critics just fawn over it cos its creator bit the dust before the show premiered and because it speaks about "important" messages. Bah humbug and put a sock in it.

I LOATHED having to sit through this disgusting play after such a big build up from a friend who is addicted to it. I paid full airfare to get to see it before it closed, went in with an open mind, and kept waiting it for it to be all that this guy said it was, but after it was all said and done, I regarded it as a Low Point in my Entire Life. I don't know what's worse, the play itself or the snotty and hypocritical condescension oozing through the pores of "Rent Heads." It made me want to go beat up some trashy, whining slackers.

I actually love this musical. It really does send a message to the watchers. I'll admit, I don't really love the movie all that much, since seeing the show live, but it still sends a message to you. It tells you that you may not be here tomorrow, and you should live your life to the fullest. And it's not only that Larson died before the show premiered that makes critics love it, but he also really lived the same lifestyle that his characters lived. He had many friends who died of AIDS, and in this show they're honored. Larson wanted to leave behind something of value, and he did. So I commend him for it, and I love his legacy. But we're all entitled to our own opinions.

I saw it in New York, I liked the music but I did think it was overrated and rather pretentious. I haven't seen the movie.
