I've read several consumer reports and tests that claim this, also many towing companies have claimed so.

When you ask a Q like this, you will get a handful of answerers & opinions of experiences.
I will post the most recent results of a study by J.D.Powers & Associates.
This is an ongoing study & is published anually.
They collect data on THOUSANDS of vehicles.
The study is of vehicles on the road for 3 years.
The data recorded is based on how many times the vehicles are in the repair shop over the 1st 3 years on the road. (not related to maintenance, ie oil change, tire rotation etc)
This will determine the "reliability" factor of any manufacturer.

Im gonna Copy&Paste a previous answer for you:

I used to be a mechanic in an auto shop. Seemed we had more
Fords in there than anything. G.M and Dodge were about even
on repairs. Consumer reports are one thing, practical experience
is another.

They are average now because they joined up with mercedes and they own mitsubishi which is a japanese car. The Japanese cars are the most reliable cars.
