everyone kind of singled her out as the leader (because she's a contractor and helped build the shelter...and she agree that she was)...so Jeff told her she got to pick the teams and since it was 9 and 9 and then her...they sent her to exile island (there were 19 castaways)...and the orange team lost so now she's going to join that tribe

Syliva based upon her Architect background help decide and build the camp. At the first Immunity challenge, Jeff Probst asked who would the tribes consider stood out as a leader. They all agreed that Sylvia took a big leadership role.
Jeff asked her to step forward and divided the remaining 18 contestants into two tribes. She was then exempt from the challenge and was not a member of either tribe.
She was sent to EXILE island and would become a member of the tribe that lost the Immunity Challenge and had to vote off a member. She joined MOTO when Jessica deBen was voted off.
The original cast was 20 members, but Melissa McNulty quit just ours before the show started to film leaving an odd number of 19 members. Mark Burnett decided to split the tribes in the manner listed above.

They asked the group if anyone took on a leadership role the first day. She was the one they all said stepped up because of her experience.
After dividing up the people on 2 teams she was then sent to exile island and was safe from being voted off the first round.
