When purchasing engines, there is a short block, a long block and your "turn key"
The short block is just that, the block, no pistons or any exernal items. The long block is a finished engine block, with all internal components installed, usually requiring the external components like the starter, alt, intake, maybe oil pan etc.
A turn key, is pretty much a completely assembled engine, just add oil and connect up the hoses and wires when you install it.

as daremo said.......except a short block has all internal part,s.....such as crank,rod,s,piston,s,etc.......but no cylinder head,s,manifold,s,oil pan,etc........along block is more complete...but not everything.......a turn key engine is complete....just install,& add fluid,s,connect wiring,tighten thing,s such as mount,s,drive connection,s hose,s etc....& drive away...knowing every thing is new.

"Turn key" has it all. Drop it in, close the hood, turn the key and go.

Base you use your intake manifolds, alternator, etc etc
