An old wives' tale method is to put a ring on a string and hang it over the baby. If it's a boy it will swing back and forth, if a girl it will go in a circle.
You can also have an amniocentesis and have the fluid checked genetically but usually just wait for the ultrasound and be patient if the baby has it's legs crossed you may not be able to see anything anyway.

At my dr's office, the person who does the ultrasound told me that, in some cases, she can tell at 15 weeks depending on the weight of the mother. Otherwise you usually find out around 18-20 weeks when you go in for the scheduled ultrasound. She told me I could have gone in at 15 weeks because I am around 115 pounds so, if you are wanting to know earlier rather than later you can talk to someone about going in to see if they can tell or you can look up ppl online who do 3d and 4d ultrasounds for an extra charge and they can attempt to find out for you.

I found out the sex of my son when I was over 18 weeks. The doctor told me that they wouldn't be able to tell the sex of the baby until your 18th week of pregnancy. Some people don't want to know but I was so anxious to find out. I couldn't go the whole 9 months without knowing if he was a boy or a girl.

With my children, I was 4 months pregnant (around 20-25 weeks) when I found the sex out.

You can find out through amniocentisis, but it's somewhat risky and not at all comfortable. I think most people find out during their 20 week ultrasound.

i read about this test online, they actually send you the test to do in your own home, and then you send it back to them with a blood sample for them to test, and they can tell you as early as 6 weeks what youre having. the website is...
www.tellmepinkorblue.com
you can read all about it there.
Good luck and God bless!

you can try having utrasound in hospitals as they have much more advanced machines.. it's better if you'll just wait on your fifth month to have it checked if it's a boy or girl.. or, you can just wait until the baby arrives.. it's more exciting :)
