"8 crests pass a given point every 12 s" means one full wave takes 12/8 = 1.5 s to move pass that point.

So, the wave speed is 1.2 m / 1.5 s = 0.8 m / s.

The piano question is simply using
speed = frequency x wavelength. You substitude the 2 frequencies (one after another) and obtain 2 wavelengths.
