Socialist Realism was supposed to reflect the life of the Soviet people realistically and from the ideological point of view of Socialism (in USSR they used the word "socialism" to describe a Communist society). For example, movies and books were supposed to show how happy and satisfied Soviet workers were. Of course, Socialist Realism had nothing to do with reality. It glossed over all the horrible things that existed in the USSR, such as repression, discrimination, absence of freedoms, etc.
