When I go to charge my Ipod video, it automatically syncs and updates with itunes of course. Then to charge it, I hold the play/pause button to turn it off and the charging screen comes up. But I have to leave me computer on for it to charge this way and I do not want to do this. If I go to charge it and my computer is closed or shutdown, it will attempt to connect with itunes and I have to start to computer up and open itunes in order to be able to disconnect. How do I charge my Ipod without having to leaving the computer on all night?

You can buy the wall charger!
The PC needs power to supply your iPod, no matter what you plug it in to ( I charge mine through my PS3 quite a lot) - it needs to be turned on!

There are cables that connect to an outlet from the ipod, you can buy them at any store like best buy and such. Its great.

Or even when you get a fm transmitter for the car, while you listen to yours songs on the car radio, it'll charge.

you can buy a iGo which just plugs into the electricity outlet in the wall then you can buy a white adapter that goes on the end of it at Radio shack that you can buy for a few bucks. Good luck
