how can i record sound (though MIC) on my computer in an MP3 Format?

i wanna record some songs that my band sings and put them on myspace. without software? (tried it once, but my computer wouldn;t work)

1)If you have a sound card, it would be best to use the aux input, might have to use Y adapter if there is no Left and right input(red&white), rather than the mic- which would not be stero

2)go to control panel->accessories->entertainment-> volume control click on advance (options from main menu)

3) verify the aux is not MUTE checked

4)use auda city for recording http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ to mp3
