These new scary movies coming out these past years look to real and too much realistic gore and blood, and they are even allowing rape and molesting of teens and women in these scary movies, such as the new version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Last house on the left, and so forth..

Well, there is actually an explaination for it - in fact it's been researched inthe medical community. An article on it caught my eye a while back.

Back before the advent of so much technology, there were real, tangible things to fear out there - hostile neighboring tribes, fierce animals, prairie fires, failing crops, etc. This fear is actually considered healthy, and it helped people live longer.

Today, we don't have that type of healthy fear in our lives - we no longer manage to get a good scare. So things like roller coasters and horror flicks fill that void.

The standard scare also doesn't do it anymore. Gone are the days of a scary thriller that could make you pee your pants in fear without seeing any real gore. every once in a while, we get a good scary movie without any gore - like that Nichole Kidman ghost one a few years back - but those are very rare.

maybe the media has made people jaded - look what you can see on the nightly news anymore!

Personally, while I like a good scare, I can't watch things like TCM or the Saw films. I know, in reality, that there are some serously sick bastages out there that do things like that, and the so close to reality makes it sickening for me, not scary.

I think sometimes the gore is so overdone , it takes away from the intent of the scare - like 13 Ghosts - that was just ludicrious. I don't see the point. Even the zombie flicks get out of hand.

The BEST scare i had recently was reading Steven King's newest book, Cell. because seemingly normal people suddenly start acting violently and bizarrely, and you know that it could have been you (suspending disbelief and getting into the story) just as easily. That's a good scare. the possibility of being raped? Not a good scare.

First of all, as any self-respecting horror fan will tell you, that stuff has been going on since the beginning of film. The first film EVER was a horror film.

Second, just so you know, the whole "rape" thing is absolutely nothing new. See also, every horror film made in the 1970s.

Third, if it's "not normal," well, again, there wouldn't be horror movies dating back to the 1890s, because someone would have put a stop to it long ago.

We all have different emotions that vary in intensity. I can only speak for myself, here, but I find that watching gory, realistic-looking horror movies prevents me from throttling the living POOP out of various fellow human beings that completely deserve it. I have lived vicariously through the finger-knives of Freddy Krueger, the axe/hammer/machete of Jason Vorhees, and the puzzles of Jigsaw. These very screen icons have saved the lives of numerous jerks that have cut me off on the freeway, stolen a coveted parking place at the mall, come to my door with religious materials, or have given me tickets for minor infractions (while REAL criminals ar busy molesting children or raping women.)

1. it's a form of entertainment
2. if you don't like it, don't watch it
3. some movies are based on true stories (i.e. Texas Chainsaw Massacre). so if you think about it, real life is more gruesome than horror movies, because the events actually happened.
4. besides, who wants to watch politically correct bull$hit, anyway?

I don't know, but to me, those movies are worse than the most graphic pornography. I don't see them, and I don't allow my kids to see them, either. One of the little girls I babysit for (age 6) has seen most of the popular movies of that genre, with her Mom's permission. I can't comprehend it.
