I know there is a firmware hack for the DVD drive, which allows the 360 to play burned games. What more do the various mod chips accomplish besides doing this? It doesn't appear they can actually do anything more.

My main question concerns game saving to a drive...

Is it currently possible to rip 360 games onto another (USB, for instance) harddrive connected to the 360? If so, what mod chip will allow you to do so?

Thanks a lot.

No modchip can currently do that.

It will be more difficult to achieve this than on the original Xbox, because the Xbox could save game files from the Disc on the harddisc to speed up loading times.

As the Xbox360's harddrive is only optional, the games can't save their data on HD and also can't play from the HD. Therefore I think it's near to impossible to load games from the Harddisk with only a Modchip.

You can not load any games from the hard drive even with a mod chip. but a mod chip will let you play backup copies of your original games (so your original games are safe).. Lets face it, the xbox 360 itself scratches the games you put in it :(

The chip to get, if you're looking is the globe-360 chip, as it works in all machines currently out there, and it a very easy install.
