I'm writing an essay for a class and I'm comparing media in America to media in other countries. This is one point I'm having trouble finding. Any help? Thanks!

I've edited papers that have ranged from 20 to 48 pages depending on a number of factors. Pagination is dictated by advertising. The publisher will have a set ratio of ads to editorial... the more ads that get sold, the more pages that are needed to accommodate them.

The editorial, sadly, is seen as "the stuff that fills the gaps between the ads" by most publishers!

In most instances, newspapers can only increase pages in multiples of 4 because of the way in which offset printing presses work. So you can't go from a 40 pager to a 42 pager, it has to be 44, then 48 and so on.

Depending on where the weekly is it can run from five or six pages , to twenty or more with the advertising.

Try going to www.niagarathisweek.ca or com, can't remember which now but you'll get a sample of a Canadian weekly.

It depends on the paper & where it's from. Papers from large cities are bigger than those from small towns.
