Thats funny, I just learned about this subject in Personal Money Managment Class today. We learned that it is never too late to start a new career and the whole unit seemed to make sense. What we learned also said that people have trouble deciding on this topic because they are afraid of having to start over at a lower wage, or that their next career won't be as successful. Tests have been done, and a significant amount of people found a career change, that they may have been skeptical of at first, one of the best decisions of their life. Good luck

More and more these days, it is common for people to be switching careers 3-5 times in their lives, whether they started out in college or not. I went straight through from high school to undergrad, then a year off, then 3 more for my graduate degree... and that's just getting the education to have a chance at doing the work in the field. After a couple of years trying to find what I wanted in the field, realized the field was changing, and I didn't want to do the work that was easy to find. Decided on a career change, and spent the next couple of years in regular old jobs while I studied. I'm hitting the new job market now after just turning 35. You aren't too old to start a career... many people of all ages, education and experience levels are doing it.

I think you are making a smart decision to stop NOW instead of waiting until you finish, if you are pretty sure you don't want to do nursing. No one is really going to look down on you for that (and it is not their life anyway, unless it is your future husband who is upset). But they would thnk that it was stupid to go through college and finish a degree in something you don't want to do (because of the wasted time and money).
As far as 31 being too old to change careers, no way! I'm in college at age 44, a mom of two, married, and changing to a new career. And you know what? In almost every class, I've met students older than myself. So you are definitely not too old to change careers.

You are not too old to change career paths. If you were only going to be a nurse for the money, you wouldn't make a good nurse. You have to think about the whole job .. hours, duties, and pay ... not just pay.
If you are serious about the beauty industry, then you should get your license and have a career that YOU want.

HELLO... at 31 years old. How can be too old? My mother get our of her retirement after 7 years and started a fishball noddle stall at the age of 66 years old right at the SARS period in 2003. She enjoyed it so much but have to quit after about 9 months as coffee shop changed owner... Wow.. that's young. The enthusiam of the new found career empowers our life. Success is in the trying and living life to the fullness. Money, though important, must not be primary reason, it could be secondary and not primary in making career choice..
Go for it... Get married first and think about it later. If want to have babies.. then free-lancing might be beneficial.

31 years and you call that old?! I didn't read your question past that. Let me put it this way, if you want a new career, do it. That simple. If you think 31 is too old, guess what? you will be 32 on your next birthday. Then one day you wake up and you are 45, then 59, then....Get the point?
What do you want to do? Whatever it is, make a decison that you are going to do it. Once you get started, the how to will follow.

quit nursing NOW. never go into a school if you are questioning you choice. do not waste money and time for some thing you may not want. nursing is not a JOB it is a career, stop school. go to what you want if it doesn't work out you'll have plenty of time to change.
i finish college at 59. kids grad h.s. when i'm 68 and college hopefully when i'm 72
you're not to old unless you choose.

I changed careers at 44 years old. Started my own business. You are never to old to leave a path in life that desn't make you happy. Do something that makes you happy and is rewarding.

You have to do what makes you happy and not worry about anybody else. Life is too short to work at a job you don't really like.
