How many records have to be sold to be a gold record and how many for platinum?

It varies by country. In the United States Album or Single sales have to be 500,000 for a gold, 1,000,000 for a platinum and 10,000,000 for a diamond.
In Canada, for albums, you need record sales of 50,000 for a gold, 100,000 for a platinum, and 1,000,000 for a diamond. For Singles you need 5,000 for a gold, 10,000 for a platinum, and 100,000 for a diamond.
In the UK you need album sales of 60,000 for a silver, 100,000 for a gold, and 300,000 for a platinum. For single sales you need 200,000 for a silver, 400,000 for a gold, and 600,000 for a platinum.

You have to sell at least 500,000 to get your record to go gold. And you have to sell 1 million to get a platinum record. I hope i could help you ...
