Okay.

I really want to be an actress or movie director. This year, our musical is Annie, and I would really love to be Annie and would put in all my effort just to make that part.

I'm not sure how good I sing- I know how to sing with a higher pitched voice like Annie, and I have the "Maybe" song stuck in my head.

Does anyone have tips on how to have a great audition and/or improve on my singing?

Any answers would help! Thanks!

To stretch your vocal chords, keep a constant eye on your voice, and try just to SPEAK in a higher pitch. This will give you a greater range in singing, but be aware that it takes a lot of time and concentration. A voice coach might also be a wise investment.

(I was in Annie as well once, and "Maybe" is definitely my favorite song from that musical!)

I just answered a similar Q a minute ago,,copied and pasted here.

First of all, not even considering the play, dress professionally but not over the top. If they want anyone in a costume they'll provide it.

Unless asked, DO NOT audition with a song from the show, but similar selections. Their focus will be on your stage presence and range anyway. If you get a call back, and it happens to be for a specific part, then you'll be required to sing the show tunes.

Be respectful and humble without seeming desperate, and be prepared if selected to be a chorus member or a walk on bit player. Within that context DO NOT take a rejection as a personal attack.

If they may not have song selections available, YOU better, and know anything you sing as if it was your own name spelled backward.

More important than anything else however is RELAX, enjoy, and try to have fun in this. It's a fun show.

If you are not sure, then you probably cannot sing. You know when you do something well without anyone telling you. If you are unsure then I imagine you are weak in the singing area. Annie calls for belting out a number of tunes, especially the main tune that Annie herself sings. If you can't do this very well, take a pass on trying out for this one.
