this is an odd question but here is why I am asking. I have been trying to find a nice boy's name that is not too common for a while now. I have been back and forth on Marcus. My husband is more sold on it than I am. Now when I have asked here at least one or two ppl tell me about people named Marcus who are evil or crazy and it never happens with other names. So, do you know anyone names Marcus that is normal?

I know a boy, I guess you would call him a man now, that just came back f/ serving the US in Iraq. To me, that is a very decent person, and his name is Marcus.

I'm not sure about Marcus, but I've known several men named Mark, some good, some bad.

One's been locked up for many years. One moved me out of state and spent all my money. (I was young and stupid).

Another man named Mark and his wife have adopted several special needs children and given them a very loving home. I also knew a guy named Mark in college who seemed very sweet, but I lost track of him.

I don't think the personality and the name have a whole lot to do with eachother. On a side note though, I've noticed people with recognizable names (not necessarily common) tend to do better in life. (but there's always the exception...look at Condoleeza Rice)

I don't think you should take other people's opinions about what you want to name your baby, especially when you've picked such a great name. I understand you don't want a negative connotation attached to your baby's name, but your not exactly naming him Adolph or Benedict. Consider the name John.

John the Baptist - Saint
John Kennedy - US President
John Wayne Gacy - Serial Killer

I don't believe their name in any way defined who they were, or what they grew up to be.

Name your baby Marcus if you love the name because he will be beautiful regardless of his name. By the way...

Marcus Allen - pro football hall of famer
Marcus Aurelius - last of the 5 great emperors of Rome. (Couldn't even think of a negative Marcus). Congratulations!

hey u really seem obsessed with this name! there is always gonna be someone good or bad with any name you find. so, either you like this name or you don't... it is your baby , nobody else's, so if you like it, go for it. the more people you ask, the more likely you are gonna find people who don't like it, who know someone crazy etc with that name, which is only gonna make you confused! personally i used to know these three guys who hung out together called Mark, Marcus and Marcus. they were cool but i was disappointed they never formed a band called Mark and the Marcuses....

The important thing is that you and your husband agree on the name, it's not weird, and it's not too common so there won't be 5 other kids with the same name in his Kindergarten class in 5 years. By the way, I knew somebody with that name, he overcame a severe physical disability and was doing very well the last time I saw him, and he wasn't evil or crazy.

I've known 2 guys named Marcus. One was a friend in high school. He was a very kind, sensitive (kind of bashful), funny, honest and intelligent person. Another guy I knew when I was in my 20s, only his name was spelled Markus. I didn't know him all that well, but from what I could tell of him, he was very courteous, respectful of women, and an overall fun and funny person to be around. (He was also good-looking!)
