He is describe as sorta a desolate character who lacks clear cut goals. His goals are dependent on others, Daisy happiness. He considers him self successful if he could have wealth and prestige and obtain Daisy But success is not always measured by wealth, but is measured by what you accomplish in your life. So that by setting a goal of wealth and accomplishing that goal he would still never be what is lacking in Daisy's life. He could never possess Daisy because they would still be world apart even if he is wealthy.
