unlike other bulbs, such as tulip and daffodil, lilies do not require a chilling period in order to bloom. but you can use cool storage as a way to keep them fresh until the ground is not frozen and you may plant them outside. be aware that although a fridge is cool enough, it is very dry and the lilies should be packed in barely damp peat moss or potting soil in a double layer of paper bags. if it is already in a pot, then just water the soil very slightly and place the whole thing in a paper bag in the fridge. check it periodically to make sure its not getting moldy or drying out to much. put the pot outside or plant the lily in the ground as soon as the soil is in a workable state and the nights are not too cold.

4 to 6 weeks is fine. Then plant in ground. Lillium likes an acid soil, so when you plant, add some humus and peat moss as a top dressing. Hope this answers your question. Good luck.

PS.. forgot to add do not let them dry out totally, they don't like it. Put bulbs in a plastic bag with damp peatmoss to supply moisture. Do not seal bag. You only want to keep it slightly moist.
