i had a friend who was jealous of someone. then she said that "everything evens out in the end" she went on to tell a story about a woman who had everything in life- a big home, a wonderful husband, two lovely children, and great beauty. but then she died. of instestinal cancer at 40. and my old friend says, "everything evens out in the end." basically, she means to say some people who have it all will end up with nothing. and people who have nothing end up with more. so people basically get their little lot in life. i thought that was a terribly mean thing to think about people. what do you think? also, do you think it is true that everything evens out in the end?

I think people just react differently to traumatic situations.

They try to put it off as just something that happens and make sense of it, where you, on the other hand, are quick to be upset.

Maybe they are just trying to get passed it, instead of pondering the meaning of it. They need to get on with their lives instead of concentrating on somebody elses life.

I really like a quote from "Grapes of Wrath". It went something like this... (I used to have it written down, but I lost it)
This old man just up and died, his life is over, he has done his job. There is no sense in praying for a dead man. He is dead. I think if I were to pray, I would pray for those who don't know which way to turn.

i don't think everything evens out at the end, but it sounds similar to a more positive view which is balance. The world needs balance and sometimes you're given some things but lack others, and maybe that's where the metaphor was confused. I don't believe that it will happen DURING your life, i think you're born with it, born with some good and some bad, or sometimes you create your karma based on ur actions.

And no matter what happens, acceptance is the most important, it's easier to find open doors when you agree that the one that is already closed is really closed. And don't worry about the future cuz you can't control something that doesn't even exist yet.

That's a rather simplistic way of putting it, and not, I venture to say, accurate. If you believe in one life-one chance, then 'the end' is likely to be very uneven. However, a study of reincarnation will show that over a series of lives, yes, things do even out. I deliberately refrain from saying "in the end", as the idea of an "ending" doesn't have a lot of credibility from where I am at the moment.

your friend is wrong... if she thinks everything evens out in life... it doesnt... life is full of things that are unfair and wrong.. that is how it is and some people get far more than they ever deserve and others never get what they deserve... the only sense that everything evens out in the end is that we all end up as either a small pile of ashes or worm food... in that sense yes everything does even out i the end...

i believe in karma but i dont believe it is healthy or nice to think that people who are wealthy with possessions should be punished... alot of them worked very hard to get where they are. and i also believe that jealousy is a curse that darkens people. also no-one can help how they beautiful they are... its genetics.
