of unused space,why wasnt that space partioned into drive d, which only has 35 gigs?

Looks like you ran into a similar problem my friend did. Your new pc came with the software cds right? if yes, then you have to do a hard disk format. Insert the windows xp cd and have your computer run from boot cd (in the bios settings make its priority highest). Then format all your physical drives (most likely 1 physical with 2 partitions) and make the partitions if you want or leave the whole drive as a partition (better cause u dont have to transfer files between partitions (takes time) when you have low space on a partition.)

you did it wrong, some where did you choose fat 16 or fat 32?
