You're in college, so I assume you are bright enough to check with some local real estate agents who often handle rentals, or if they do not, they can surely point you in the right direction. You can also check out local papers which amazingly, advertise various rental properties. The western suburbs of Chicago are VERY expensive, so you will have to take that into consideration. And the little fool who mentioned Gurnee as having studio apartments in obviously rather clueless. Gurnee is NOT a western suburb and well, oh skip it.

Naperville, Oakbrook, Elk Grove and St. Charles has some nice appartments.
