Also I already know about all the bad thing overfilling your oil will do. I'm just wondering is 1/2 inch over my max mark on the motor oil dipstick something to worry about?

Yes, You can blow out your oil seals. There are other cons to it, but thats the main.

Type of Car (make/model/engine)
Measured Engine hot or cold?
Diesel or Gas engine?

In a gas motor that's warm, a half inch would generally indicate about a half quart over. In most motors, that's well below the crankshaft, and therefore not a big deal. Remember the oil level will drop from a cold engine to a warm engine (as it's pumped into the motor)

The risk is when the oil level rises above the crankshaft. The shaft will stir it superfast into a foam. Oil-pumps don't like pumping foam. So you end-up without lubrication and BadThings happen.

In most motors, that's at least a quart over.

4Cyl VW's are an exception to that. In a 4cyl VW, I'd drain it and fill it more precisely.

Depends on the engine,on some models it could be critical and cause damage to the engine or seals.

sure, not enough oil causes friction and overheating which in turn kills an engine.

to much oil causes foaming and possibly hydra-lock. foaming is air bubbles in the oil which reduces its ability to lubricate, hydra-lock is where there is to much oil and it interferes with the parts movement, since oil wont compress the parts usually break

yes, you want to fill it 3/4 of the way when the engine is cold. so when the eng. gets hot, it has room to expand. too much oil will make your eng. work harder.
