To make an erupting volcano you will need:
A volcano - Talk to an art teacher about making a volcano out of paper mache or plaster. If you're in a hurry to make your volcano, use a mound of dirt outside.
A container that 35mm film comes in.
Red and yellow food coloring (optional)
Vinegar
Liquid dish washing soap
What to do:
Go outside
Put the film canister into the volcano at the top
Add two spoonfuls of baking soda
Add about a spoonful of soap
Add about 3 drops of the red and yellow food coloring
Now for the eruption!:
Add about an ounce of the vinegar into the container and watch what happens.

STEP 1: Use a sheet of plywood at least 8 inches wider and longer than your planned volcano to make the base, to prevent the lava from staining surfaces during eruptions. STEP 2: Use salt dough, plaster or papier-mâché to form a mountain around an empty 2-liter bottle placed upright at the center of the plywood base. Be sure to leave the lid off. STEP 3: Form the model volcano's open top tightly around the mouth of the bottle. STEP 4: Make ridges and channels beginning at the volcano's top and ending at the base of the volcano for the lava to flow through. STEP 5: Let the volcano dry completely, then paint it with acrylics or spray paint. Plastic aquarium plants can be clipped and glued to the volcano for trees. STEP 6: Spray the volcano and plywood with a clear sealant after the paint has dried. STEP 7: Mix 1 tbsp. liquid dish washing soap, 1 tbsp. baking soda and a few drops of red food coloring in a cup. STEP 8: Pour the mixture carefully into the bottle. STEP 9: Set the volcano in an open area, preferably outside. STEP 10: Pour 1/4 c. white vinegar into the bottle and stand back to watch your volcano erupt!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do not attempt to seal the bottle once the vinegar is added to the baking soda mixture--the resulting pressure could cause the bottle to explode.
also begine a little early so if something goes wrong you will have more time left do try it again
one more thing, it will talk at least 2 days to do it.
Here is a VERY easy wayy to make a volcano and shouldn't take too much time.
Materials:
1 liter soda bottle
3/4 cup of WHITE vinegar
5 TBS of baking soda (may need more)
Some Garden Dirt/Soil
1: Take the bottle and center it. Then pack on dirt around the bottole until its shaped like a mountain; leave the openning of the bottle open so don't put any dirt around it.
2: Than pour vinegar into the bottle and then put your baking soda in, If reaction does not start immediately, you may need to add some more baking soda until it does start foaming.
There you go! Good luck on your science project.
OOOH~ that easy~I
We took a small cardboard box (18"x18"X4") and glued a paper towel dowel to the back of the box. The dowel has a beveled cut to help the flow go in the right direction. We cut it to be about 10" tall.
After this, the children rolled up scrap sheets of paper that we had saved from the computer for them to draw on. We started with big wads of paper and built a good base by using ordinary school glue to keep the pieces stuck together. Then we filled in with little wads until we had formed a half mountain coming down the dowel.
Our mom made the play dough recipe (below) separating a small amount with red dye and a larger amount with green dye. When the larger amount had cooled somewhat, we rolled it out into a fairly thin sheet (not too thin) and draped it over the paper wads until the entire semi-volcano was covered. We had to patch some places. It give a great rough mountainous surface.
We then spray painted some brown paint lightly over the green play dough. When this dried, we made small green trees out of the remaining play dough. With the red play dough we made lava flows going down the "crater."
On the back side of the volcano, we put a sign explaining what kind of volcano we made. It also had a cut-away view of the inside of the volcano colored by us.
At school, we filled the dowel with baking soda. We had put a mix of green and red food coloring in the vinegar and poured it into the tube.
Cooked Play Dough Recipe:
1 cup of flour
1/2 cup of salt
1 cup of water
1 tbsp cooking oil
2 tsp cream of tartar
food colouring
Mix together and cook over medium heat until doughy. Stir constantly. Wrap in foil, knead and store.
Make it out of paper mache..all you need is newspaper and flour water paste..Look up paper mache paste on google for correct amounts of flour and water, then all you need to do is build it by layers around a cup or glass of sometkind..I know you make it erupt too, with Vinegar and bakingsoda...not sure of the of the recipe. After it dries paint it..you can make trees, and stuff too out of paper mache.
you can do a search on Google (which I did for you)
http://www.volcanolive.com/model.html
you are lucky. When I was in school we didn't have the Internet for this kind of information we would of had to WALK to the Library.
