A multicultural society is a society in which many different people of various cultural or ethnic (or a variation) backgrounds coincide peacefully.

Example: The neighborhood is racially, religiously, and in all regards to lifestyle, integrated rather than separated. There is a temple down one street, a church on the other. A black couple living next to a white couple and an interracial couple down the street with a gay couple next door.

Of course generally it is not so mixed although in many cases we come close. Where I am from I would consider my town to be multicultural, we have Asians, African Americans, Caucasians, Latinos, Indians, all within the same neighborhood all practicing their cultural backgrounds. It's really a great thing you learn so much more about people than you would stuck within a segregated community (that of just one race or culture group). <3 New York =)

Multicultural societies do not view their differences as negative things, but embrace their differences and learn from each other to make everybody's life better.

Everyone can contribute something to society, and societies with different cultures have a wider range of contributors.
