Oh, several times. I hate violence, but I've "punched out" 4 of them over the years, when all else failed, such as avoiding them or trying to talk them into a better position. It was amazing how quickly they folded like a house of cards and I didn't have to do much real hitting at all.
I've also let social bullies treat me like pluperfect cr*p for far longer than I should have, but once I turned it back on them, I got a similar result. A few flared up self-righteously as if I was the one at fault; others folded completely; and 2 screwed me royally. But y'know what? In every case, it was RESOLVED and off my back.
Be very sure of yourself when you define someone as a bully, lest you become one yourself, but if they make it unmistakeable, NUKE THEM. Don't let anyone diminish or abuse you, because the thing that drives them to behave like that in the first place is not your doing. Letting it go on for long just empowers it. They won't stop on their own or they'd not have started on that road to begin with.
You have every right to defend yourself and there is always the chance that in teaching them that they can't get away with it without paying a price, you might be protecting some possible future victim who has less fortitude. Not always, certainly, but its possible. Just think it through carefully and do what feels right. If your instincts are even halfway correct, you'll be on the right footing.

I was bullied around allot as a pup. One day I had enough of it and stuffed the guy in his locker and went home. The janitors found him a couple hours later crying for his mommy. He or anyone else never bothered me again. And his reputation as a bully was over when the story of him being cut out of his own locker crying spread like stink.

Grade 9. The new kid (a boy) was my friend outside of school because I had a pony and a motorcycle...but at school the coo,\l kids got to him and let him know he shouldn't be my friend. So he would kick my chair everytime he passed me. Finally I had enough and grabbed him by his shirt and shook him while telling him to never do it again. He stopped doing it and the bonus was that the other kids also had a new respect for me and started being nice to me. It was the best thing I ever did for myself to overcome the situation.

When I get real angry, a string of cuss words comes out of me that can embarrass a sailor. I caught 'em off guard.
They walked away, scratching their head...lol
