We have 4 days to spend in Virginia and wanted to know what there would be to see. We want to rent car and drive to D.C. and spend there a day but what else would there be to see.

Sorry if i wasn't specific enough. I wasn't looking for what to do in D.C. more what other city or place we should see during these 4 days.

Sunshine ... Be REALLY careful where you park in D.C. They have tow-away zones everywhere PLUS many speed cameras. I'm not trying to discourage your visit ... There are many things to see and do, but I wouldn't want your 4 days to be spoiled by tickets and/or your car being towed.
So how would you get around? Taxi is possible, but if you're on a budget, the rapid transit system (Metro) is pretty good. The station attendants are very helpful. Oh, but the last time I checked, the rest rooms were closed to the public for security reasons. I could be wrong about that ... the policy may have changed again.
Good luck with your visit. Don't miss the Smithsonian's Air & Space Museum. It's great AND free, too. The Holocaust Museum is worth a visit, too. Have fun, Sunshine.

Williamsburg, Blue Ridge Mountains, possibly the Naval Base in Norfolk, Busch Gardens, King's Dominion, Virginia Beach, and vineyards.

Do not drive into DC! Park your car at some metro station and go see the sites. You will so get turned around if you try to drive as it is not like a normal city.
