Do you have a gradient of temperatures throughout the tank? They need a hot basking area, but they also need a place to cool off a bit. He could just be keeping himself busy. I have a Savannah Monitor that does that sometimes. I wouldn't worry too much. As for it being safe, your Beardie isn't going to crack the glass or anything. I would suggest you make sure there is a warm side and a cool side of his tank and give him a place to hide on the cool side of the tank so he could get out of the heat if he wants to. Hope this helps.

I LOVE BEARDIES!!! Dont worry it is natural for beardies to do this. My dragon Sobe does the same thing. The glass is usually the coolest park of the tank. I catch him digging in the back left corner all of the time. Its their way of telling you that they want to go to sleep or that it is getting too hot. Mine usually stops when I turn the light off for a while. Make sure the lid you have for the tank is a screen one or plastic one that is cracked open while the light is on. email me and let me know how that does. Do not listen to the shelter idea from above. This is dangerous, beardies tend to be very lazy. It is very important for them to stay warm, if you put a shelter in most likely they will go in and not come out. This will cause them to get too cold and they will die. They are not smart enough to go back out and get warm.

I have a bearded dragon who is male, vet confirmed, and he digs in the sand, I think its because he gets to hot. He is looking for a cool place to be. Does he have a shelter? Check the temp. its supposed to be around....80-85 and basking spots around 90-93 the max! Temp at be from 65-75.

Are you 100% sure it is a male? Maybe it is a female trying to dig a hole for eggs.

It also could be that it is too hot and the lizard it looking for a cooler place to rest for awhile.

I would read up on it.

Make sure that the temperature is not too high, cause most of the lizards seem to dig when they feel hot.

Beardies are known to dig. 1. to burrow away from high heat. 2. to maintain a good cool body temp. also females are known to dig to ready themselves to lay a steady clutch of eggs. good luck

In their natural environment they rest in holes (usually under rocks) at the hottest parts of the day. He's just doing what comes natually.
Alternatively, she could be about to lay eggs.....!
