I live in Los angeles and purchased three used DVD from a local HOLLYWOOD VIDEO store. I liked the first two but the third one, I realized that I made a mistake in buying it just by looking at the box-cover. I tried to exchange the third but the store employee said they can only exchange it with the same movie if it only is defective. Is there a good excuse for me to use so that I can exchange it with different used title movie?

The only way these stores can exchange it for a different movie is if they no longer stock the item. You can tell them it doesn't play on your recorder, or that it skips scenes. If they have the same movie in stock then you are out of luck. I'd give it as a grab bag gift for the next party.
