I have a dell dimension 2400 pc with celeron running at 2.4GHz. Dell's website says it will support a pentium 4 at 3.06 GHz but will not support hyper-threading technology. However, the only pentium 4chips running at 3.06 GHz that I see all support hyper thread technology. What should I do?

The last guy makes a good point, but notice on the page he showed you that where it says the chipset supports HyperThreading, it has the small cross that tells you to look at the footnote. There it says for HyperThreading to work, you have to have a BIOS that supports HyperThreading, and the Dell BIOS may not support HyperThreading. But the worst that will happen is that you will install the chip with HyperThreading and the HyperThreading part will not work, which woulb be no big loss since its not that effective anyway.

Yes, the processor does not have anything to do with the OS in this case..........It should run it well. If you are loading 98 from a CD........go online to find a windows 98 support site as microsoft no longer supports it, but there are a few sites that do so you'll be able to upload for free all the updates since 98 came out..........this is a must do in order for 98 to properly.
