Why is it that most of the people that I have encountered from that part of the world do not see African Americans as Black. As a visiter in Egypt I have constantly been told that I am not black, I am Arab or Iranian. Is this simply a problem that I have encountered or are African Americans viewed by the Africa and the Middle East as being something other than black. Maybe this issue has something to do with the fact that I am light brown skin, but then again so are just about over half of the population of African Americans; most of my family are either peacan brown or light brown. It is even worst when I have visited certian parts of kenya, some even call me an American white man. I REALLY WANTED TO KNOW HOW IN THE WORLD CAN THEY COME UP WITH THAT CONCEPT BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING ABOUT ME THAT LOOKS WHITE!!!!!!!!

I was told by the black girls that I went to high school with that I wasn't really black because:

1) I'm only half
2) My mom looks white
3) I don't act black
4) I date white men

There is no rational reason for it. It's just stupidity.

Read the book, The Economics of Politics and Race by Thomas Sowell. Its an interesting read that explains the view other nations have of African Americans across the diaspora.
You may not agree with his politics but he's got a great book there.

It's just their mindset.Perhaps the people there are extremely dark, like dark cocoa,so when they see someone whos lighter then them they will think "greatly" of you. However,it is easy for someone to misrecognise you as iranian as middle eastern due to your skin colours similarity to theirs.besides dat,you shud get used 2 it.dere is nth u can do dat can change deir mindsets.bcos it'll jus b rude 2 tell em the truth, huh?good luck though.have fun.i 2 wana visit kenya someday.

The modern egyptians have a differen concept of race than our modern one. Duh. They have more categories than black and white.

You guys must be exeptionally light. Duhh! Outliers in african indigenous skin color.

Actually, there are a number of very dark arabs.

And actually, africans don't have a set skin color, though the majority do.

North african coastal types (and foreign mixed ones from further in land of course) are the only outlier on the continent with african genes in terms of skin colors.

I've been called a lot of different things too.
It doesn't mean any of it is true as you have noticed.
Who really cares what they say, only you.

You should stop thinking about what they say or think of you and start thinking about what you think or call yourself instead.

Let them call me anything they want, except "Late for Dinner".

it is terrible we treat eachother the way we do. racial divisions are human creations, yet they have existed for as long as the human race has been present. people innately think that those who look different are some sort of different species. we need to change this human race to a human relay. haha
