You can download a program called Ccleaner (Crap Cleaner) that will clean all your temporary files, delete you internet history, or whatever you specify. You can get it here: http://www.ccleaner.com/

The easiest way is to use disc cleanup. This is under programs/accessories/system tools. Another way is to use search/find files and folders and set the search = to *.tmp . You can then select all and delete. I suggest deleting the temporary internet files and cookies first using internet options from the tools menu of internet explorer. Then use disc cleanup, then search to get any tmp files missed in cleanup. That's a pretty thorough cleaning. You should then defrag the disc. You will notice a significant increase in speed.

Go to the root directory [ c: d: ]

search for ~*.*

This will show all of the 'Leftovers' from Microsoft's screwups. I have seen these stop people from saving documents in WORD because the PC thought all of the memory & disc was used up.

For other, standard temp files, r-click the drive, select Properties, Disc Cleanup.

AND, in MSIE, tools, Internet Options, clear out the Temporary Internet Files and History.

Besides the temporary Internet files (which can be deleted via IE) the other temp files are located in these 2 folders ... mostly in the second one:

1) C:\Windows\Temp

2) C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Local Settings\Temp
(must enable "view hidden files & folders to access this directory)
