After his 12 week jabs my son gave me a 15 minute telling off! Admittedly many of the words are not recognised in the english language but we understood each other perfectly!

My daughter was 4 months and started sounding words, by age 1 she said over 100 words but wouldn't walk! The doctor examined her and said she was a chatty girl who love communicating and she would walk when she's ready, she did 2 weeks later. (Some days I thought she'd never shut up!) My son was nearly 3! He would grunt or thump on the fridge for what he wanted and his big sister and I were there to give him what he wanted. We'd make him say it, so he'd say it then only to get what he wanted, we didn't push it and just let him go.One day he blew me away with an entire sentence! "Mommy I want a Happy Meal" I got him one. He's 16 now and gets really high scores in math and reading. His sister is in college studying psychology, don't worry, they'll talk when they're ready.

Mine was a little over the age of 1 when he started talking. I think it was between the age of 15 months and 18 months.

The first "da-das" came in around 12 months, but I'd say the door opened around 18 months, and the floodgates opened at 21 months. I remember being worried about my daughter, because my friend's daughter was 1 month older and spoke circles around my daughter when she was only 14 months. Bottom line is, when they have something to say, they'll say it! I remember telling myself to enjoy the relative silence, for one day it would come to a screeching halt....and so it has! :)

My daughter was talking long before she walked. She had a huge vocabulary and short phrases before she was 12 months. Her first word (other than "mama", "dadda" and "baba" for bottle) was "calculator" if you can believe that! But it really varies from child to child. Some kids don't start talking until after they walk.

My son started to utter words like "mum-mum" and "car-car" around 15 months. But to be really stringing words together that happened around 2 years old.

First off you have to understand that every baby develops differently and you cannot compare one baby to the next. Boys will do things differently than girls and the other way around...You baby will develop on it's own schedule...If you see a delay or find that your baby isn't responding to loud noises...Talk to your doctor...
