My opinion, they are not equivalent.
Sense of belonging: The sense of feeling comfortable being there with someone / some places.
Being needed: The sense of feeling important to someone. It usually caused by the feeling of self unworthiness, and need someone to prove the self value by being needed.
Somehow, the common thing is that they are the basic human needs.

Sure it is, no one wants to be un-needed. You grow up belonging to your family and needed by your friends so it is only natural to have the same desires now.
