Currently, the executive branch has taken on unprecedented power. As for current events? Talk about Bush's executive orders that he takcs onto things and tries to enforce as legally binding, despite the fact that they bypassed Congress (the legislature). If anyone brings up The Supreme Court, you can use an example of Worcester v. Georgia where the Surpeme Court ruled against Andrew Jackson and he basically told the S.C to go screw itself (and completely ignored their decison). The Surpeme Court doesn't have enforcement powers like the executive and the executive has taken it upon itself to do legislative work. So I think hands down the executive branch is now the most powerful branch of government.

Check out the section of this article (click the link below) titled "Response to the decision.":

There you have it. There is historical precedent for a president deciding to ignore the judicial branch. As for the legislative branch, Bush ignored that recently with the wiretapping the completely ignored the FISA courts.
Plenty of examples abound in the last 25 years. :)

To everyone else talking about checks and balances:

Read some current events or history and you will find that checks and balances exist on paper, but have been circumvented by EACH branch (historically speaking).
There are significant legal arguments that even the Surpeme Court overstepped it's bounds in taking the Bush V. Gore case in 2000. That is just one example. That doesn't even take into account all of the power the executive has seized in the last 25 years. The president has also had an increasing role in promoting his legistlative agenda in Congress as well. Ideally, the S.C only interprets laws, it doesn't make them. So while the S.C might have the final word on laws (regarding whether or not they are Constitutional), it certainly can't reject them simply because it doesn't like them.

Well, that depends. The President, in theory, is pretty limited in what he can do (and that's the way the founders meant it), however, the office has gradually gained more and more over the years (starting with Andrew Jackson the 1830s). Congress is also supposed to be limited in its power. They have very specific areas over which they have legitimate authority. Unfortunately, they have warped and stretched the Constitution so much that they can now claim authority over many more things than they should. By and large, the Supreme Court has allowed this to happen, however, in recent years, the SC has started to put a stop to Congress's gross abuses of power (See United States vs. Lopez), but it's only a start. So to answer your question, I believe that generally, Congress has abused its power more than the Presidency, so they are the more powerful. As for something you can relate to, I cannot help you there, because I have no idea of what you can relate to.

It is design so no one have more power than the other but if I were to tactically pic one I would say judicial because they are the final word in law interpretation. Example they get to pick the president.

Each branch has it own certain "power", not sure if you ever heard of Checks and Balance system before or not, but it is basically to kept each other branch honest of sorts. (yea like any of the government is honest)
