i just got a speeding ticket in Georgia and the State patrol officer didn't ask me if i wanted him to calibrate his radar or if i wanted to verify the speed that he stated i was traveling in any way. He didn't even tell me why he had pulled me over he just got my information and came back with a ticket and said i was traveling 90 in a 70 mph zone. Can I fight this since the cop didn't ask if i wanted to verify my speed in any way? also where can I find a law that states whether it is contestable or not. any help is greatly appreciated since i can't afford the ticket or the raise in my insurance premium.

your going to pay that ticket. i live in georgia. in georgia we all go very fast, like 20-35 over the limit, but you can't be from out of state or not from the South. He does not have to verify the speed. You got a ticket which you can pay or show up in court. Just because the cop does not show up does not show you the radar does not mean you will not have to pay. That is another wives tale. Sorry man. Good Luck!

I was with the OP in the car and I don't think the charges are fair. Yes, he was speeding at 75 mph but does that warrant a $486 ticket?? This is his very first traffic violation. That cop wouldn't listen to us, he was telling us that there was no way he was wrong about our speeding. But I know for a fact that we were NOT going 88 mph, He was driving my car and I looked at the speedometer right before the cop turned on his lights. His reading should not be the final answer. We are all human and therefore aren't perfect and make mistakes.

If you want to verify the speed gun YOU should have asked to see it yourself I would say pay it and go on!
