Please help me out: In The Matrix: Reloaded, Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus go to see the Merovingian to find the Keymaker. Morpheus says, "It all begins with choice." He (Merovingian) says "No!...We are all victims of causality." He uses the blonde girl in the pink dress as an example. Could someone please explain what is going on there? With the girl in the pink dress?
Thanks a lot.

Thanks to the first answer, but really I was just looking for what the heck the girl in the pink dress was doing. I understood what each was trying to say, and I must say I agree with Morpheus. She could have chosen not to eat it. Thanks.

What the Merovingian was trying to say is that choice does not have any part in destiny, that everything is caused by other factors. One thing leads to another, which leads to another, and so on. His example was how the girl in the pink dress took a bite of a chocolate dessert, and had a pleasure reaction from it. What Morpheus was trying to point out was that it was the girl's choice to take the bite of food in the first place, but the conversation didn't actually go that far in the movie.

Causality is the idea that there is no choice, there is no chance, no blind luck, that everything has a cause and an effect. Everything is happening or has happened because of something that happened before it....

In the movie "The Matrix Reloaded" Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus go to see the Merovingian to find the Keymaker as they were send by The Oracle --- Merovingian knows it and the fact that CHOICE was the reason for which they came to him and it was that choice that made every program to make connections.
Then He uses the blonde girl in the pink dress as an example is a 'program which is defined to follow what it is to do' --- CAUSE AND EFFECT >> meaning the desert (piece of cake) she took
was a cause to activate her senses an have effect to her body >>The Merovingian knows the obvious choice that the programs (people) take and he this is the reason why the Merovingian went to the bathroom and why his wife suspected (later) of the lipstick in his lips (he blonde girl in the pink dress ).The Merovingian was a sort of administrator and he had the "recycle bin" where neo was first there (the train station) then he was compled to 'restore' or bring him back.all of this happened due to the choices that was taken by the programs and casuing an effect to the entire programs. This part of Movie (reloaded) makes more importance on the view of 'Choice'.
there are lot of things you need to understand for to have a clear concept for which this space is not enough !!!!
so i hope it helps ya' :
As Neo puts it "choice : the problem is choice "

Hi all - When the three meet the Merovingian in the restaurant, M says something in French to Trinity in greeting - something like "que me fait soufrir" - I think this is an expression that means something to the effect of "be still my beating heart" in English, something like "how you make me suffer", but this does not translate literally. Does anyone know what he says?
