Is there a way to test if an engine and/or transmission in a non-running car is good or not? Would you have to remove them first to know? Any help would be great. Thanks!

Why won't the car run? Does it just need a simple "jump"or are parts missing? An engine can be turned over with a wrench and socket on the nut holding the harmonic balancer on to see if it will turn over by removing all the spark plugs. But that won't tell ya if the motor is worn out, only if it will turn over

i imagine he's had it lengthy adequate. call round to three shops and purely ask how lengthy it always takes to substitute a transmission from the day you purchase the area (estimate about a week or a touch longer for delivery at maximum) to setting up it and how difficult that is to position in....that'll probable be the finest estimate you receives. yet again, i imagine he's had the motorcar lengthy adequate and that i probable should be way better impatient of a shopper than you've been. i ought to flow as far as to take my corporation elsewhere and require funds back if it wasn't finished via the time i grow to be quoted the first 2 cases.

I have bought supposedly good engines with out hearing them run.I have done it twice and both times I ended up taking the engines back out and throwing them away.I would highly recommend against it.I have also seen other people have the same luck with transmissions. For me its just too much work to take a chance.

You can check the plugs, compression and make sure there isn't any water in the oil or oil in the water. The only thing you can do to check the tranny is look for leaks and smell the oil to see if it smells burnt.

We have a saying with a local bone yard around here.
Do not buy anything that required oil in its life.
