I understand ovulation tests, but i am unaware of when to start testing. Being that tests can be pricey i don't want to waste a bunch of tests? When is the best time to start using the ovulation kits to check for my most fertile day?
Thanks

Ovulation tests at the dollar tree are a dollar per test. Typically if your cycles are pretty regular, you can generally start testing from about 10 days after the start date of your period. If you have irregular on short cycles, you would test sooner and more frequently. Also, sometimes, if you are using ovulation tests alone, and you're only testing once a day, you may miss your peak or positive test.

I can generally pick my ovulation down to the date, when I notice the thick cervical mucus and know its about the 12th day of my cycle or right around there. The test usually comes back positive within a day or two. But that takes practice getting to know your body.

A book I would strongly recommend if you haven't already read it is Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. You can usually find it cheap on half.com or amazon.com.

Also a good website is www.ovusoft.com, to help you chart your fertility signs, even if you're not taking temps every day.

Hope this helps!

if you want to keep your money, go to www.babycenter.com. they have a fertility calendar. you can plug in the first day of your last period and it will give you a 5 day time frame as to when you are most fertile. That helped us when we were trying with both our kids, and worked even better in between the kids when we didn't want to get preg. good luck.
