BRITISH MUSEUM HEAD FINALLY MEETS GREEK MINISTER OF CULTURE
On 13 November 2002
What could Greece do to make it easier for the British Museum to let the marbles go?Well,a great deal actually.Britain could become the only country in the world with a permanent rotating exhibition of ancient Greek art. There would thus be no gap,no empty rooms in the British Museum. At this point Jules Dassin added that there are extraordinary riches in the BM's storerooms that could be displayed for the world to enjoy.Asked by the chairman whether he meant that by taking back the Marbles, the Greeks could be thus doing a favour to the British Museum,Jules Dassin replied:"We come with warm feelings. We love you"
Mr Papandreou also mentioned the possibilities of making true copies of the Marbles for the British Museum as modern technology now allows. He said unequivocally that Greece would pay for them.Answering a remark by Mr Maxton that this could be the other way around as well, the Greek Minister......

...pointed out that it would be logical for THE ORIGINALS TO BE WITH THE ORIGINALS AND NOT THE COPIES WITH THE ORIGINALS.Mr MAxton admitted that there was no answer to that. The hearing was concluded with Mr Papandreou emphasising that the Marbles have a past but also a future and that the Greeks and Britons could shape the future together...

In fact the British people want to return them! Very few want them out of place(in London).
The British museum has parts of the sculptures which were brutally cut of from the Parthenon.
Imagine that there is a head of a sculpture in British museum, the torso in Athens and a leg in London!
As I said both the British and the Greeks wants them back in Athens together with the rest of the Parthenon Sculptures.
Unfortunately the British museum knows that it has a lot of stolen artifacts(from many cultures) and they are terrified that if they start returning they will eventually have to return them all!
This is the only reason!

Yes we would pretty please!!
Actually it is not for Greece to have them. After all they belong to the world as much as Plato, Aristotle, Pythagoras etc. It is more personal than that. We want them back on the Parthenon the holy symbol of Athens. They are the symbols of a brilliant civilization and should come back home after an exile of just over 200 years.

YES of course. I think everyone does...even the Brits (its the government that doesnt let go).
The sad thing aside from them being "stolen" is that they are not being properly taken care of. I heard that they take wired sponges to clean the marbles thus destroying the texture and appearance they should have in the first place.

yes for sure they have to return to where they belong, would you take something from my home and display it in you home.

it is very sad that countries cannot respect the origin of some monuments and keep them, just for the sake of money, and the excuse that greece has no museum to hold them properly, it is BS, maybe we should take the queen's castle and place it somewhere in greece, would the brits be happy........

let's be serious

There should be no question about it. They were literally stolen by Elgin. If the Brits had any sense of fairness and justice they would return them immediately. But one hopes too much from people who profess fairness but seldom practice it.

I am English and absolutely believe that they are here as an act of theft and should be returned. Modern technology is such that and accurate cast of these magnificent items could easily be reproduced.
