This woman that I know tells me that a school that is 80/20 white you are not going to have the same problems as a school with 40/30,she also says the more diverse a school is the more problems it will have! I was really upset at this and let her know , she is a member of the local pta, so Iam questioning her racist thinking, do you think Iam making a big deal over this kind of talk-thinking ?

Children from lower economic areas do have a strike against them, and it has nothing to do with race and everything to do with how they live at home, with few books, working parents and changing caregivers or too much responsibility at too young an age. It possible that either due to where you live, or what she has seen, the lower economic group where she is or was, was not white. She is speaking of her experience, and while it is upsetting to hear, if it isn't heard it can't be fixed. A very fine line I will admit, but how can you begin to help if you can't discuss it.
The most important color in this country is Green, money green.
All the other colors fade in comparison to that one.

The problem with that type of person is that they are usually just ignorant. Most of the time they don't even mean to be rascist... they are just ignorant to the reality of a diverse neighborhood. every school is gonna have different problems b/c schools are comprised of different individuals w/ different needs and wants. if you feel strongly on the issue you should tell her your concern for the rascist tone in her comment, but realize that everyone is entitled to their opinion - no matter how ignorant it is.

no, you should bring it up at the next pta meeting. the world is getting better, but its people like her thats holding the progress back. kids need to be around each other race. Its getting better anyway.
