How can you separate zinc chloride from silicon dioxide?

Add water. Zinc chloride dissolves, silicon dioxide does not. Filter the solution. The SiO2 remains on the filter paper. The ZnCl2 solution passes through.

zinc chloride is a white, water-soluble crystalline compound. silicon dioxide (Quartz) is an insoluble solid.
