It's pretty hard to find intelligent people in any chatroom, but I've found good stuff from these places:
The butch-femme.com chatroom (butch/femme lesbian chatroom, but awesomely nice people, no bots, and fun banter).
The Yay for Queers or GenderForm chatroom (small community, but awesome gay and genderqueer people of all types):

To be fully honest, I don't think any of those truly exist. You can have an intelligent conversation going, and some jerk is always going to come in loooking to see naked people on cams.
Yahoo, MSN, Paltalk, etc - all get the same thing - pay or no pay.

i guess it depends on what you are looking for. Try gay.com that is a pretty cool site. But I can't vouch for it to be 100% honest people on it
