very simple

first find the slope

y2-y1 over x2-x1

3-1 over 2--6
equals
2 over 8 which equals 1/4

so the slope is 1/4
then you plug into the equation y=mx+b

pick one of the coordinates 2,3

plug those in
and remember m=1/4

3=1/4(2)+b

3=1/2+b

subtract 1/2 from each side

2 1/2=b
which is the slope intercept

sp the equation is y=1/4x+2 1/2

ok so when you're making a linear equation you need to remember that y=mx+b. M=the slope, and B is the y intercept. for this problem you need to find the slope and the midpoint before you can write the equation. first do y1-y2 over x2-x1. in this case that would be 3-1 over 2--6 and the answer would be 2/8 which reduces to 1/4. then you need to find the midpoint which is x1+x2/2 and y1+y2/2. in this case that would be 3+2/2 and -6-1/2. the midpoint would then be 5/2, -7/2. now what you do is put all those numbers in to the formula y2-y1=slope(x2-x1). so that would be y--7/2=1/4(x-5/2). then you just solve it and put it into y=mx+b form.
