It came with this description. Does this mean that, that MP3 will only accept paid songs? Not the songs I already have downloaded?
"Audio Playback (mp3/WMA/WMA DRM/Audible/Janus Compatible) -– Listen to several different formats of music and books. Compatible with most download and subscription-based internet services"

WMA has DRM (digital rights management) which means that the files can be restricted from playing on certain devices or after a certain length of time.

MP3 on the other hand has no such restriction, so any files you have in mp3 format ought to work. Of course there's no guarantee that the software that comes with it will let you transfer mp3 files of your own making to the player. If this is the case, as long as it is recognised by the computer as a 'mass storage device' you will probably be able to transfer files to it with windows explorer. Of course, there's no guarantee under this circumstance that it will play the files you transfer.

However, if the specifications do not say that it limits the use of a certain format when it does, then it is in violation of product packaging laws. Then you have the right to return it to the manufacturer (but not neccessarily the retail outlet). So at the end of the day it comes down to whether you trust the manufacturer to honour the law with regard to the return of mislabelled merchandise. I consider that a manufacturer which will fail to inform you of such a critical part of the products operation to be untrustable.

This is why I won't consider an mp3 player that suffers from digital rights management.
