Is it legal, under HIPPA regulations (1993), to notify emergency personnel of infectious exposure as described in the RYAN WHITE ACT(1990) even if information is identifiable?

It looks like it's still legal to notify any exposed emergency personnel of the patient's infectious disease status.

Health care personnel can know of any additional risks to themselves as they give care. Infectious diseases are not an exception. When patient's come into my OR I am told if they have HIV or Hep C or anything like that. Health care workers deserve protection too.

If it has to do with treatment of the patient, it is legal to notify emergency personnel.
