hi connie, when an animal goes into heat or is in season.(her period) it means that she can mate with a male.Im no expert,but I think the female speicies of a cat or dog is in heat for about a week. Glad I could be of assistance. Jan.

Heat means that your pet is ready to mate (have sex).

They are ready to reproduce. Spay or Nuter all pets.

Only females go into 'heat'. (ready to become pregnant)
Not males...
