If she wants to pay for it with her own dollars, then go ahead and knock yourself out, sweetie.

If she wants to push our 7 trillion dollar deficit just a little higher by using public money to do it, then go to Wal-mart and get a *%&%^& sleeping bag for $9.99

I hate it when both sides do this...talk about how we have to make sacrifices in our lives while they do the "peoples' business", then slurp off the public trough.

I am so sick and tired of hearing people repeat the swill the GOP bitterheads spit out
Here are the facts
The request for a larger plane was not made by Ms. Pelosi but by the House Sargeant At Arms. Ms. Pelosi said she would travel commercially if there was no plane that would have been able to make the trip however the Sargeant At Arms made the request based on the fact that Ms. Pelosi represents the state of CA vs. IL, where Hastert represents. There is a great difference in terms of distance between D.C. and IL vs. D.C and CA. The request for Ms. Pelosi is not new for a speaker, who is second-in-line in presidential succession. A defense source said the speaker's regular access to a military plane began after the September 11, 2001, attacks.

Tony Snow, White House spokesman stated today that said the negotiations over Pelosi's transport have been conducted solely by the House sargeant-at-arms and the Pentagon, with no direct involvement by the speaker or her office or the White House.

The concern was in refueling stops that would have to be made. The Gulfstream plane Hastert used could fly from D.C to IL and back without having to make a refueling stop. If Ms. Pelosi uses it, it would be able to travel one way non stop ONLY under optimal wind conditions and would therefore need to refuel along the way which is a security concern.

It was also to accomodate other members of the CA delegation who will have to pay a fare to travel on it, it would not be a free ride. This also included trips back to see the people who put her in office NOT for personal pleasure.

No. It seems that Pelosi did not even request the jet in the first place. The possibility of obtaining one came from the Sergeant at Arms. Think Progress has debunked the claim in the Washington Times, and you can read about it here:
http://thinkprogress.org/2007/02/05/pelosi-military-aircraft

Here's a part of the article:

1) The House Sergeant at Arms, not Pelosi, initiated inquiries into the use of military aircraft. House Sergeant at Arms Wilson Livingood, who has served in his position since 1995, released a statement today clarifying the facts. He writes, “In December 2006, I advised Speaker Pelosi that the US Air Force had made an airplane available to Speaker Hastert for security and communications purposes following September 11, 2001.” Additionally, Livingood writes, “I offered to call the U.S. Air Force and Department of Defense to seek clarification of the guidelines [which governed Speaker Hastert’s use of a plane].”

Also, it is interesting that the White House defends Pelosi using the plane:
http://www.cnn.com/POLITICS/blogs/politicalticker/index...

The White House on Thursday defended House Speaker Nancy Pelosi against Republican criticism that her desire to fly in an Air Force transport plane is an extravagance.

"This is a silly story and I think it's been unfair to the speaker," White House spokesman Tony Snow said.

The minority whip is a Republican. What would you expect him to say? The last Sec. of State had a plane too. The only reason she wants a big one is so it can fly from Wash.D.C. to Cal. without landing to refuel. This is not an issue with anyone except Republicans who feel like lashing out at her. Weak...Really Weak.

do any of you have a brain in your head? read the story in the context...

it was a comparison, there was no call for any bedroom?

he "called it" that... it's like me calling the white house a "den of lions"... that doesn't really mean that there are lions there...

this is borderline comical...
