question about the keffiyeh?

hey
some people i see walking aournd my college wear the keffieyh.
they do not look palestinan tho at all lol
so why do some people do this? just curious.

Usually out of a desire to show their support and solidarity with the Palestinian people. Most have no real idea of the facts, history, or issues involved in the conflict and simply do it because it looks 'cool', or it feels 'cool' to be part of a 'downtrodden and oppressed people' and so on.

I've known about 3 people who really did their research and decided to wear one - most simply do it for the statement. It's a lot like the folks who wander around wearing Che' Guevera T-shirts. They have no idea who he was or what he did or stood for - but it's cool to be part of that group, man!
