My question is not:
-What are your views on affirmative action?
-Doesn't affirmative action suck?
-What is a better alternative to affirmative action?
Please, I'm not asking for anyone to agree or disagree with me. I just want an answer. From a neutral perspective, preferably.

Is government funding the only reason? 'Cause if it is, that's a lot of dough to cause that much trouble.

Students should be selected based on their intelligence and capability, not race. Affirmative Action is a racist program.

Why is there not an affirmative action in the all black colleges? The best way to get more black Americans in college is stop making studying and school a "white thing". A lot of black culture could get ahead just by being more knowledgeable in school. If every black American was getting better scores on the SAT's, CAT's, and ACT's and GPA's, we whites would not be able to stop them. Affirmative action is acually stopping them from doing this and helping to keep them down.
Some universities get Federal money, Without the diversity they would not get some federal or state money. They get a larger class size and more grant money (automatic money).

Affirmative action is a concept that was designed with good intentions, but in the end, just doesn't acheive it's goal.
When dealing with discrimination, you just can't let the "ends" justify the proverbial "means".
The only answer to the discrimination problems of the world is simply to conduct all of your business that could potentially create discriminatory conficts extremeley clinically, and without emotional biases.
By creating the differential "quotas" associated with Affirmative Action, we are not only being counter-productive to our purpose, we are actually worsening the original problem of making choices based on the very same discriminatory basis we started with.

I feel "Special Treatment" should only be offered to members of a group that is willing to publicly state and admit that they need it because they actually are just too inferior to the ones who do not!
Too closely related to Monkeys, or just too genetically flawed, or whatever!
I have bad news for all of the ones who are currently still getting it in the year 2007, THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE ADMITTING TO BY ACCEPTING THE INSULTING TREATMENT!!!!
No wonder some "Groups" have no esteem or self respect!
Rats take, they do not get things by begging or by demeaning themselves!
You'll never hear me say " I need to be allowed to get special treatment because I am just not as common as the others and therefore you should help me by discriminating against them-they are better than me and I need your support in keeping up!-Waah, Snivel, Waah! I deserve "Special Consideration" because they are all better than me! Waah, snivel----I'll vote Dimobrat!!!
You do not need to tell me anything, I'll just believe you that you know what's best if you just make all the better people treat me special!!! Waah, Snivel....
ADDED---In exact response to your question about the benefit-I have a very hard time understanding how in the world "Dumbing" down the classes by allowing less than the most qualified students into an institution of Higher Learning benefits anyone!
Rather than Dumbing down our best Universities to achieve a more Racial balance, how about getting rid of the Reverse Racist Black Colleges and other Schools that are filled with way too many "Minority" groups and getting the IQ's pulled up with a huge influx of Asians and other excelling student populations!
I really hate double standards!

Why should ethic diversity come first?
I've been in a situation before where I was unable to take a particular class because the section I tried to take was "geared towards minorities". Funny - that was not explained in the course catalog, nor upon registration.
AA is reverse discrimination. Why would anyone support a racist program like that? The only way we're ever going to make real progress on race issues is when we quit insisting on keeping racial barriers like AA.
Oh - I've also been the "token female" before. I would have preferred NOT to be hired - they NEVER let me forget I was only there to fill a quota.
AA gives the impression that women and minorities can not compete without an advantage. I prefer to compete on my merits.

White men have for hundreds of years received preferential treatment, and they still do!!! (How could a numb-nut like Dubya EVER have made it to Yale without "legacy"??)
A more diverse student body means that students learn about life as well as particular disciplines.
