(quarters = 3 times nickels)

The third equation comes from "her bank has three times as many quarters as nickels"

Therefore

3y = x or -x + 3y + 0z = 0

First of all, for your second equation, do you mean:
.25x+.05y+.10z=62.40

Your third equation should be:
x=3y
